BUHARI PROMISES TO PAY PROTESTING SUPER FALCONS WITHIN 2 DAYS

President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to within 48 hours pay all outstanding bonuses and allowances to the Super Falcons, after they staged a protest at the National Assembly on Wednesday morning when the President was expected to present the 2017 budget to a joint session of the parliament.

The players of Nigeria's senior women's national team, champions of Africa for a record eighth time, had protested on the streets of Abuja all the way to the National Assembly complex to press for the payment of their unpaid bonuses and allowances.

The aggrieved players, who have now laid siege on the parliament building won the 8th edition of the African Women's Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon, and have vowed not to hand over the trophy to the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, until they are paid.

The African champions have also refused to leave their Agura hotel‎, Abuja.

But the President, through his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, has promised to pay all their entitlements in two days. The players were told to submit a means of contact, before being asked to return to their hotel.

While each of the Falcons players is owed as must $16,500 for winning the tournament in Cameroon, they have only been paid a total sum of N600, 000 each (approximately $1, 900), which is a far cry of what is due.
