Woman,at 42, docked for allegedly stealing 2 babies



A 42-year-old woman, Rashidat Salisu, who allegedly stole two babies, was on Monday arraigned at a Surulere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. The defendant is facing a charge of child trafficking.
 
The prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the defendant committed the on May 16, 2016, at Old Abeokuta Road, Abattoir Bus-stop, Oko-oba, Agege, Lagos.

She said that Salisu stole an eight months old baby and a one year old one from their homes.

Osayande alleged that the defendant had been in the business of stealing children but that justice had finally caught up with her.

According to her, the offence contravened Section 275 (1) and (6) of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Magistrate, Mr Ekpaye Nwachukwu, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N500, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
 
She said that the sureties must provide evidence of tax clearance and ownership of property in Lagos.
 
Nwachukwu also ordered that the sureties should deposit N100, 000 each at the court’s registry.The case was adjourned to Aug. 16. (NAN)
