Parents must support children’s academics –Educationist

Education has been described as very important in the life of a child and parents have been urged to support their children in achieving this goal.
Making this call recently during the 13th valedictory service/prize giving day of Krisbethel College, Lagos, proprietress of the school, Chief (Mrs.) C.O. Ojo, said that regardless of social and economic status, parents and guardians must ensure that children under their care receive quality education as this would help them compete favourably with their peers in the future.
She said, “As parents, we must ensure that we give quality education to our children. We owe them that.“For us at Krisbethel College, we are committed to excellence. Last year, we produced a student who got seven A1s in the West African Senior School Certificate Exams. So many other students got distinctions and we recorded 100 per cent success in WASSCE and SSCE conducted by the West African Examination Council and National Examination Council. We will always go after maximum success and will never lower our standards.”
While revealing some of the challenges related to running a successful private school, Ojo said much of the progress of such institutions depends on the commitment of parents in paying fees promptly as that would assist them in meeting up with providing quality facilities and services being their only source of income.
“The only source of revenue for private schools is the school fees; we do not get any subvention from government, even with the important role we play in the society.
“Therefore we urge parents to always respond promptly to the requests of private schools particularly in the area of the payment of their ward’s fees. It is the only way we can continue to mould students into future champions,” she said.
