Herdsmen clashes: Peace Corps to start animal policing
The National Unity and Peace Corps has said it is ready to assist Nigeria by undertaking the task of animal policing in order to curb the incessant classes between herdsmen and farmers across the country.
The Commandant General of the NUPEC, Chinedu Nneji, said this on Friday at an interactive forum held in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
Nneji, who was represented by the Osun State Commandant, Moses Ayodele, said Nigeria had lost so many lives and properties due to the frequent clashes between herdsmen and farmers. He said the organisation was ready to offer solution to the problem by policing and monitoring animals from straying and destroying other people’s properties.
He said “NUPEC will undertake animal policing and monitoring to avert incessant conflicts between herdsmen and farmers and also control, regulate, police and monitor other animals’ accommodation and tolerance among communities.
“Domestic animals in general are meant to be kept in custody by their owners so as to stop the nuisances caused by these animals.”
